ALGONQUIN MIDDLE SCHOOL IS A TRANSITIONAL SCHOOL
The Averill park art Department is made up of seven outstanding art teachers. We are confident that we are providing students with a strong and well developed program in the visual arts. Each teacher has a specific area of interest that helps to supplement the overall program making it one of the top art programs in the tri-city area. Art history is at the center of all our lessons and it is up to each teacher to determine how they will integrate it into their lesson. Computer technology is of primary interest to our department at this time. We are utilizing several different programs and strategies in teaching as well as learning. However, we cannot forget that the visual arts is about creating art in a variety of media. Emphasis is given to careful observation in drawing lessons as well as concentrated areas of study in photography, sculpture, ceramics and of course, painting.
